About Lil' MDGs
The Lil' MDGs are a group of youngsters who are working together to support the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The Lil'MDG's educate, inspire, and empower children in all corners of the world to help solve serious local and global issues. Realizing that many children are concerned about global issues, but do not know how to help or get involved, the Lil' MDGs are mobilizing young people to learn about the MDG's, raise awareness, join campaigns and take action!
What are the MDGs?
During the 2000 United Nations Millennium Summit, 189 Heads of State and governments agreed to work together to solve serious global issues such as extreme poverty and stopping the spread of HIV/AIDS. They took a pledge to meet specific goals by 2015!
In an effort to make the world a better place for everyone, the leaders signed the Millennium Declaration, which encompasses eight goals designed to improve conditions for many people who are suffering around the world. The eight goals that were developed during the summit are called the Millennium Development Goals.
The eight goals
- Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger
- Achieve Universal Primary Education
- Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women
- Reduce Child Mortality
- Improve Maternal Health
- Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and Other Diseases
- Ensure Environmental Sustainability
- Develop a Global Partnership for Development
